The other attempt came from 16 year old Daniel Taylor and his father Alex Taylor, who own Bosque Boer's in Bosque, New Mexico.

Alex successfully negotiated a deal with Pecos Valley Processing in Roswell New Mexico to process goats at its USDA facility. This is a major accomplishment because previous attempts at getting the facility to accept goats had failed.

The Sysco foods contract requires the availablity of USDA certified meat so it appears that Alex and Daniel are well on their way to being able to get the contract.

The Taylors hope to finalize the deal in the next few weeks.

Sysco foods launched a multi-mllion dollar advertining campaign featuring New Mexico raised agriculteral products earlier this spring. Featured in the campaign are cotton, wheat, apples, chiles, sheep and goats to name a few.

The New Mexico State University Rural Agriculteral Developement Department was approached by a marketing representative from the monster food distributer earlier this spring. They wanted to start a marketing campaign focused directly on foods produced in New Mexico. A representative from NMSU approached the NMMGA to see if a statewide organization of goat breeders would be interested in taking on the task of landing a contract to supply the goat meat portion of the campaign.

It was decided at the May board meeting by majority vote to not involve the NMMGA directly but to support the efforts of individual NMMGA members.

One attempt was a Meat Coop formed by several farms. The joint efforts of Lonely Point Farms from Tijeras, Emerald Buckle Livestock and Equipment from Bosque Farms, and 5 Star Boers in Tucummcari made up the cooperative. The group established a business plan taking into consideration such things as feed lotting to quarrantee a consistant carcuss everytime year round. With goats being seasonal creatures that task is much harder than you would think. They also made sure that there was a consistant deworming and chemical butcher withrawl program in the plan.

The lack of a confirmed commitement from a USDA processing facility has all but stalled the efforts of this group.

NMMGA members Alex and Daniel Taylor co-owners of Bosque Boers in Bosque, New Mexico are negotiating a major contract with the world's largest food distributor, Sysco Foods.
